Bauxite Museum

History of Bauxite Museum

Housed in the original 1917 Alcoa facility, the Bauxite Museum offers an in-depth look at the town’s pivotal role in aluminum production. Through a variety of artifacts—ranging from early mining tools and historic photographs to interactive displays on smelting processes—visitors can trace the evolution of the industry and its impact on the community. The museum also highlights personal stories of workers and families whose lives were shaped by aluminum manufacturing.

Mission

“To preserve history and maintain the building and properties for educational purposes.”

Vision

To foster community pride and inspire future generations by celebrating Bauxite’s legacy in aluminum innovation.

Founders

Former Alcoa employees and their descendants who rallied in 1985 to preserve and repurpose the building.
